Seasons
It’s that time of the year. The season changes. Back-to-school—whether that’s for a child, college student, grandchildren, or yourself!
Summer into Fall or Autumn—most Americans call it Fall, but many of our English-speaking friends in other countries call it Autumn.
Seasons of life: parenting, parenting adult children, sandwich generation, marriage, empty nesters, single life, divorce, widowed, aging. It happens. They all create change.
Instead of dreading seasons and the loss of the past, we should embrace the change and use it for moving forward. We can embrace the past, learn from it, adapt what we need, and go on… We can use it to clear the cobwebs of our lives and allow ourselves the space to create.
Yesterday, I read a meme that really hit on a hard day of change and seasons. It was reflecting on friendship, and said something to the effect that if someone wants to seriously be in your life, they will make an effort to be in it. Full stop. No reasons, no excuses.
Friendship shouldn’t be hard. One should not be chasing it. It should not be hurting your heart and soul. It’s okay to move on.
This was my winning entry in a contest I entered some years ago. I hope it gives you comfort in your friendships:
“The secret to long-lasting friendships is to realize not all friendships are for a lifetime. Some only last for a few years. People will naturally gravitate away from each other and it's okay. Others will last a lifetime, and those are the keepers. The ones you will grow old with even if you live many miles away. The ones you can pick up the phone once a year, but the conversation is like you've been apart for a day. Learn to know the difference, nurture the good ones, learn to let go of the passing ones, and always have room in your heart for new friends. Denise Stout ©”
Whether your change of season is one of the weather variety, creating a new path, or inspired project, or just going with the flow, I hope your next season is one of peace, love, and joy!
Hugs,
Denise
